There is one thing people always questioned about me my kindness and the way I am….
Some people say I am too soft. Some tell me I trust people too easily. Others believe that in today’s world, being kind is nothing but being foolish and an invitation for people to take advantage of you. And honestly, there are many moments when I believed them. There were days when I asked myself why I kept choosing kindness even when people around me didn’t. Why was I the one expected to understand, forgive, adjust, and still smile
But despite all those questions, I never truly changed.Looking back now, I think I know why I didn’t able to change . Because I grown up watching my father. Not through speeches or lessons, but through the way he lives every single day.
Sunday eve was one of those ordinary evenings that unexpectedly became unforgettable. We had made plans to go out together. It was supposed to be a relaxed, fun evening some shopping, some family time, and a break from work. Just as we were about to leave, my father received a phone call from one of his clients…They wish to meet him
Like anyone would, I assumed it must be an extremely serious matter. Without a second thought, my father cancelled our plans and as always I accompanied him in the office
When the clients arrived, I realised they were not influential people. They were not wealthy, nor was it a case that promised recognition or financial benefit. They were simply a family looking for help. They looked anxious, worried and above all this , hopeful that my father would guide them.
On our way back, I asked him something that was in my mind…Papa, couldn’t this waited? We had plans too. He smiled and replied so gently that I don’t think I will ever forget his words.
Our plans can always happen another day. They needed me today. Then he said something that settled a debate I had with myself
He told me, “Never close your doors on someone who has placed their trust in you. A person with money can always find another lawyer. But someone who comes to you with nothing except hope has already decided that you are the one they believe in. Don’t let that trust go unanswered at any stake….”
I didn’t say anything after that. I simply kept thinking.
People often ask me where I learnt to be the kind of person I am today. Sometimes they even question why I continue to be kind after being hurt by people. The truth is, I never consciously decided to become this way. I learnt it by watching my father every day. I learnt it from the countless moments when he quietly chose people over everything and humanity over profit.
Maybe that is why, even when people disappoint me, I cannot bring myself to stop being the way I am.
That doesn’t mean I don’t get hurt…….I do.
There are days when I wonder why I should continue helping people who would never ever do the same for me. There are moments when I feel exhausted by always trying to understand others and making me convinced that there might be reason they show such a behaviour to me…… But every time those thoughts come, I remember that kindness is not about how others behave. It is about the values we choose to live by.
My father has never taught me that success lies only in winning cases or earning more. He has shown me that the greatest success is becoming someone people can trust in their most difficult moments when they needed and no doors were opened to them . That day , I realised that the greatest lessons are rarely taught in classrooms or courtrooms. They are learnt by quietly observing the people we admire.
If people still tell me that I am “too kind,” I think I finally have my answer. I am the way I am because every single day without even realising it my father has shown me what kindness truly looks like.
And if being raised by such an example means that sometimes I get hurt for being kind, I would still choose this over becoming someone who stops caring.Because one day, someone might need me just as much as that family needed my father. And I hope that when that day comes, I choose people before anything just as he always does.
That evening gave me more than a memory it gave me clarity. It reminded me that kindness is not about expecting goodness in return or anything in back it is about staying true to the values that define you. The world may offer countless reasons to become harder, but every day you must learn to remain kind…..
It’s a lovely anecdote Vidhi. Really enjoyed reading this and Kudos for being such a kind human being. ❤️
Thank you diiii❤️
This is beautifully written; honest, reflective, and deeply moving Jr. Sharma. It’s a reminder that kindness isn’t weakness, but a conscious strength shaped by what we choose to carry forward. Proud of you always!
Thank you bhaiya❤️❤️
